I have ten fingers, they are all named Jack
and they are magic finger yes they are, can you imagine that?
I have me a hat, oh, I wear upon my head
and it is Jack the magic cap do you believe the words that I have said?
I got me a guitar, oh, it's as pretty as can be
but I didn't name it, no, it was Jack when it was given to me
Chorus:
I am Jack the mad page of the kingdom of spades
and I wander where'er I wilt, no matter how far
and my only purpose on this plane is to remind you all of what you are
IA!
children of the stars
And I am but an aspect, yes, I'm a branch upon a tree
Just like my ten magic fingers they are fractals of my magic me
and I weave my dreams and I walk my weave
til I bring the things I've seen down before my feet
And hell, well, I don't know where this path will take me
But I'll get to the river eventually
Chorus
oh I come from a place where we call a spade a sword
where we call a page a lord of the air
but my wheels keep spinning round, my feet they never touch the ground
and I, I get nowhere
Chorus

Well I climbed up as high as I could in that tree
but the fading orange glow, it was all I could see
the sun on the horizon was a memory
and then the evening star he appeared to me
He had split himself in two what a fool, oh what a fool
He had split himself in two what a fool, oh what a fool
And hidden in the light he was sending me
some half remembered dreams were mad whole so I could see
He sang to me a song, oh he told me a story
how my brain could comprehend it was a mystery to me
And in the story that he told I was an impatient little child
held up by a string of lightning
hovering in the great blue sky by my fathers side
I said "father in the night I see the faces of your many brilliant wives,
and the ghost of or ancestor asleep in a black sea so wide"
They said "son dont you see, those are all just reflections of my light from different times"
so I said to my dear father "I wanna be like you
would you make for me another so that we can be two"
they said "fool, we are all just tools in an infinite plan
the one that you love is sleeping safe on your mothers skin
upon the land"
so I waited for the time, when it came again, to dream.
I appeared to you to play in golden fields beneath an old ash tree
Do you remember when we thought we'd play in those fields forever
but the time had come for me to fly so we made a pact together
we'd fall for each other so we both could learn to fly
and be free forever with our father in the great blue sky
So I jumped down from my cradle and I fell for the one I loved
but my glorious golden kit oh it was tied around my waist
and it split us both in to what a disgrace a simple mistake
Little did I know I was just stepping on a reverb pedal
releasing a wave of energy that went rippling on forever
but every feedback loop become resolved eventually
and we'll remember that we're one just give it time you'll see
Just trust me
oh I've got a spaceship time machine
I didn't know it was mine, you see
I had forgotten who I was before
I took this form in this beautiful world
Now I float around in it every day
doesn't matter what people say
cause they might think I'm delusional
but I'd say I'm just a fool, who's in love with free will

All my loved ones have had fears I would up and disappear
into a stormy sky and leave them all alone
only consolation I could give to them is I don't know, I go,
wherever the wind it blows
I'm a kite so hold tight to this string
you will find me when the wind has died again
I'm a runaway shopping cart
headed straight for your parked car heart
and theres no way that i'm not gonna leave a dent
the path I wander down it is a twisted skinny snake
it's as narrow as it is dangerous
and I'm afraid if I just accelerate
I'll disappear into the great blue sky some sunny day
I'm lost in locomotion, I'm lost in locomotion
I fell from such a height oh I fell so far that I forgot where I was going
that's why I'm lost in locomotion
the secret that I hide is that way down deep inside,
beneath all this confusion
I know exactly what I'm doing
for those who appear lost, well we most often are not
and this is the path I've chosen
that's why I'm lost in locomotion

A Good Mans Job

I heard a man, he said the world it was a changin'
I hear a man he said the world would stay the same
well I don't bother with such quaint deliberations
I think that I shall be the one that is to change
I have a friend they swear the stars are gonna save us
I had a friend they swore the snakes would do us in
well I can't tell you which is which, or what the way was
all that I know is just to chance it though its slim
now tell me
what is a good man but a bad mans teacher
what is a bad man but a good mans job
I ain't no pope, and he'll I'll never be a preacher
cause what's the use, except to soil the name of god
I used to jump and think the clouds were out of my reach
I learned to float and found that they would float to me
I used to wonder if my ship would keep on sailing
well I used to wonder, now I'm drowning in the sea
what is a good man but a bad mans teacher
what is a bad man but a good mans job
I've wracked my brains, I've wrecked my sense, and i've lost my reason
I've found a spanger is much better than a snob
what is a bad man but a good mans brother
what is a good man but a bad mans friend
you know I'll always be the one that's gonna help another
I tried my best, I guess I faked it in the end

Down to the river's never far away
so it's either that, or I'm headed up the mountain
there's good work here, guess I'm inclined to stay
I never get my fill from that ever flowing fountain
back in the the forest in the backwoods in the hills
where my solace goes unheard save for the suffering snickering creeks
back towards the forest, back towards the woods
to find some peace amongst the whispering trees, the laughing brooks
So I roll down my sleeves and put my hands in my pockets
for this cold city breeze will turn the beggars into prophets
they act like fools in the streets, trading a laugh for a dollar
but these cold concrete walls they make me feel a bit smaller
Down to the river's never far away
we've got this place where the bums and hoppers party
y'know, this damn city's just a giant ashtray, why should I give a fuck
about a cigarette butt on the asphalt that trashes this place
back in the forest in the hills amongst the trees
oh theres a carpet of moss and dead leaves
you know it swallows the worms they gobble up
anything that falls down
I hide my face in my skank I hide my ears in my collar
before this cold city breeze it blows away my last dollar
while at dream piercing heights the vampire litches they sit
spinning time into shares to sell our souls into profit
down to the rivers never far away, but that mountain ain't no climb

day after that, went for a walk
down a path I'd never took
silent moss carpet the hallway
between the river and the woods
and here iron spirals grow
from slabs of concrete on the ground
I'm so glad I kept my shoes on
from al the glass lyin around
you're the sunlight on my shoulder
you're the motion of the air
it's a shame I never told her
but I could not know I was not there
You're the sunlight on my shoulder
you're the motion of the breeze
you're a glance across the water
you're the whispering of the trees
it's a shame I never told her
and that i never seemed to care
I could not show how much I loved her
when I could not know I was not there
